The SkyWay Testing Centre in Sharjah, located at the Sharjah Research and Technology Park (SRTIP), welcomed the delegations of the UAE government and Saudi business, where there were announced plans to build the innovative transport system «The Line» as part of the NEOM Linear City project.
On January 10, 2021, His Highness Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud announced in Riyadh the launch of the ambitious project “the Line” in the future’s NEOM city.
“We (Saudi Arabia — author’s note) are to transform traditional cities into cities of such technological type (linear cities — author’s note), cities of the future. Today, as Head of the NEOM Board of Directors, I present to you — the Line. It is a city with a population of 1 mln people, 170 km long, with 95% of nature untouched within its borders; a city without cars, traffic jams, exhausts and industrial pollutions.” — His Highness Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
The UAE government delegation was headed by Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, and Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Business and Small and Medium Enterprises. The Saudi business delegation was headed by John Fahd Touma, Director of ERI, one of the largest engineering and construction companies in the country.
Both delegations were accompanied by Hussain Al-Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP and Head of the American University of Sharjah Enterprises.
The guests showed great commercial interest in the electric elevated transport system and paid attention to the growing interest in the MENA-region for the innovative transport complexes that meet the special requirements of linear cities, in whose creation the MENA region governments are interested.
