Sharjah is looking forward to getting a new industrial Park, already named «Al Sharjah Industrial Oasis», which, according to experts, will be the largest in the Gulf region. Future residents of the Park are promising high-tech startups and companies.

Today, we will be talking about the purpose of this Park foundation and its significant role in the development of Sharjah Emirate and the SkyWay project.

What is SRTIP?

SRTIP is Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park or Sharjah Research Technology Park, one of the four free economic zones in the territory of Sharjah Emirate, where foreign companies can have their business enterprises.

The first stage of the Park will be completed in 2019. On the area of 175 hectares, there will be built the Headquarters of the Park, laboratories and innovation centres. The future stages include a Centre of Innovative Excellence, a Technology Museum, a hotel and a conference center, as well as residential facilities.

The Park is being built by the AUS Enterprises Holding company which develops projects for the Sharjah American Institute. The Park will be located not far from the institute.

What is the Park being created for?

The free economic zone is designed for local and international high-tech companies in a variety of fields. Here, the residents will be offered scientific laboratories, office and residential premises.

The purpose of the Park is stimulating innovation, encouraging entrepreneurship and developing a sustainable economy of knowledge. Following the example of Silicon Valley in the United States, the work of the Park should help strengthen the links between manufacturing, universities and entrepreneurs.

The main Park work directions:

  • Transport and logistics technologies;
  • Water technologies (recycling and water collection);
  • Renewable energy technologies;
  • Big Data information technologies;
  • “Green technologies” of environmental development;
  • Industrial design and architecture;

All these directions will be connected by the policy of “triple helix”: beneficial interaction between government, science and business.

SkyWay in the SRTIP

At the end of September 2018, on the territory of the Park, there took place the opening of the site, where the SkyWay Innovation Centre will be built.

The Centre will become a demonstration platform of the string transport for the Middle East region and a functioning transport line for the local campuses. The tropical versions of the transport are already being developed for these purposes. In total, the area of the future SkyWay Park will be more than 50 ha. The completion of the construction first stage is scheduled for 2019.

The development of SRTIP projects is actively being watched by the emirate government. At the end of 2018, Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Head of Sharjah Emirate, visited the Park. Together with the Director General of SRTIP and a Member of the Trustees Board of the American University of Sharjah, he discussed the future development of the key Park projects.

In early 2019, the SkyWay Information Service interviewed the Park CEO Hussain Al Mahmoudi, in which he shared his impressions of the SkyWay project and cooperation with the employees of CJSC “String Technologies”.
